Bettina Loy

_MG_5383_1Bettina Loy began her riding career and life long passion for horses in Germany at the age of 11, riding and training with German trainers noted for their commitment to Classical Dressage which has become the sport standard world wide.

In 1996 she came to California. Here she met three-time Olympian Guenter Siedel. Working for Guenter over the next four years, Bettina had the wonderful opportunity to care for and work with Guenter’s world class horses. In 2000 she accompanied Guenter to the Olympics in Sydney as his assistant.

At the end of 2000 Bettina was promoted to the position of trainer for the Linda Alexander/Guenter Seidel Dressage Training Stables at Del Mar Horsepark. During that time she continued her personal training and acquired her United States Dressage Federation Silver Medal.

In 2002 Linda relocated to Los Angeles and Bettina stepped up to take over her business and Del Mar Dressage was founded. Over the last 6 years, Bettina has slowly and carefully built her own clientele. Del Mar Dressage is a well respected, training, competition and sales barn located in Del Mar Horsepark, a 65 acre world class equestrian facility in Del Mar California. Bettina currently trains clients and horses at various levels from beginner through FEI. In addition to managing a full time training stable, Bettina has never let go of her dream to be a world class rider in her own right. One of her greatest strengths as a teacher is that she herself remains a student. Bettina trains with world renowned master Conrad Schumacher. She also takes the time to sponsor and participate in regular clinics with Olympians Sue Blinks, Klaus Balkenhol, Charlotte Bredahl, Christine Traurig and Dietrich v. Hoffgarten, until his sad passing. Bettina is also a regular competitor in top rated shows throughout the State.

During the early hours of 2014, Bettina was introduced to Cayenne (Christ x Raphael x Donnerhall), a young, sweet,, dark Hanoverian mare bred by Joerg Clasen of Germany.  It only took one ride to know Bettina had found her next partner. The mare’s light footed gaits and remarkable balance were evident in their nearly 80% score at their first show together. Bettina is currently working with Conrad Schumacher to develop this young and talented mare. This one she hopes to hang on to for her own bid in the World Class ranks.  This is an arduous process that requires time and resources.

On June 21, 2008, at the suggestion of U. S. Olympic Team Coach, Klaus Balkenhol, three-time Olympian Guenter Seidel and his sponsors Dick and Jane Brown purchased Bettina’s horse, Trinity. Since losing two of his mounts, Guenter had been looking for talented new horses to train for possible Olympic contention. This is not easy to find. Perhaps one in thirty horses has the intelligence and athleticism to compete at this level. This turn of events is a high compliment to Bettina’s training and riding skills. In four short years she turned a gangly four year old standing an imposing 18 hands high into a brilliant and powerful 8 year old ready for World Class Competition.

Walentino arrived from Holland October 8, 2008. He is a 5 year old Chestnut Dutch Warmblood purchased through VDL Stud one of Holland’s premier breeders. Walentino and Bettina showed successfully through Prix St George before he was sold in 2014.
